College majors

True story. I think it’s already silly enough without all the crazy imagination sequences and whatnot. Sorry if anyone here actually does have this as their major (I doubt it), but it’s just so silly.

  • What is taxidermy anyway?
    Like a government thing?

  • Second, hooray!

Also, I believe that taxidermy is like the art of cutting up animals and stuffing them.

  • According to dictionary.com, taxidermy is “the art of preparing and preserving the skins of animals and of stuffing and mounting them in lifelike form.”

  • Hahaha

    I beat you Ki!

  • TAXIDERMY?! That’s worse than letting Yuyuko eat them alive. Letting her eat them dead and stuffed!

  • I say, someone must have made a funny, because your mother’s in stitches! Ha ha ha! Ah, I’ll leave you to grieve.

  • That’s not funny my brother died that way.
    T_T

  • lol taxidermy

  • But without taxidermists museums would not be filled with creepy stuffed animals.

  • Taxidermy is a general term describing the many methods of reproducing a life-like three-dimensional representation of an animal for permanent display. In some cases, the actual skin (including the fur, feathers or scales) of the specimen is preserved and mounted over an artificial armature. In other cases, the specimen is reproduced completely with man-made materials. ~Ok I admit that was ripped.

  • wtf taxidermy? o_O

I didn’t even knew there was a major of that…

  • I knew what taxidermy WAS… but I most certainly didn’t know you could major in it~ ._.

  • Hey, that’s not nice!

Taxidermists provide a valuable service for our country!
Think of the walls above fireplaces that would go without moose heads! The trophy rooms without stuffed bears!

WHERE WOULD HUMANITY BE WITHOUT THESE NOBLE TRADESMEN?!

  • I wouldn’t have been surprised about taxidermy being a college major…
but then again… yah know, i haven’t even heard of a college offering that. And I go to a technical college that has a Golf Course and Landscape Management course. We also have Graphics, Games, & Simulation Programming and Artist Degrees though. And a MOCAP room, so it’s cool.

  • *looks at list of majors*

    Yay, we’re represented!

  • “Business/Finance … Physics … Computer science … Okay, I think that’s all of you!”

  • Is the last one “Visual Novels?”

  • “So, Mr Jones, I’ve read your CV and I’m proud to say I’ve never seen a more qualified taxidermist in my life.”

  • @bluish_wolf: It would probably be “Visual Arts”, but then again… :D

  • Apparently, the University of Iowa has a program for taxidermy majors. I found that out after looking for someone who seriously, actually majored in it, and I found one by the name of Paul Bourgalt. Funny thing is, Paul is apparently an artist, so his pursuit in the taxidermy field was presumably canned.

I dunno, really makes you wonder. Makes you wonder the age old question: why? Why would you want to? What inspiration lies in a major like taxidermy? Perhaps those stuffed bears they saw at the museum as kids were woefully unrealistic, and they sought to correct these wrongs in the world. Unsung heroes, I guess. And she just loled at them. Because it’s funny. I mean, I would laugh too.

  • Hey KirbyM make some real flashes. I know your real life and school is EXCITING AND LEARNING IS FUN but a little variation is not a bad thing.

  • Never mind what taxidermy is, what’s a ‘major’? XD
I can’t help but imagine a scale in music. *Sigh*
…”And here we are, Marisa’s Theme in Taxidermy Major”.
It lost a little meaning crossing over the pond. =/

  • @SomethingUnreal: I hope you are joking but well it isn’t like common knowledge in other place other than US and Canada. So Academic major is basicially a person’s main field of specialization during his or her undergraduate studies.

  • Ground control to major Tom

  • @bluish_wolf: It’s “visual arts”

@Anonymous: What do you mean by “some real flashes”?

  • Anon wants you to make him some free Touhou-related entertainment instead of just linking videos and making dailies.

Act quickly; Dan Kim is usurping your place as king of western Touhou content.

  • Oh, here’s an interesting note about Computer Science: Insane Demand right now apparently in quite a few aspects of it. I went to ask about the placement rating on the Game & Simulation degree and heard a 100% for it and the rest of the department, along with that most people get job offers before leaving and have jobs by the time the leave.

So if spending long, tedious hours writing code for a rather nice sum of money is your idea of a good job, then it appears to be a good career to go into due to how in demand for work you would be.

I’m mainly going for that because chances are it’ll lead me into a game design job, which is what I’m after, but can’t get into real easily.

  • Maybe anonymous wants pictures of camera flash going off.

  • @ME!: Understandable if we have the appropriate person behind the camera. ;P

@Setsi: Well, I was joking about the musical scale part, of course. I’d heard of ‘majors’ (not musical) before, but I didn’t know exactly what it meant. It’s not like all countries are going to know the same words.

  • @SomethingUnreal: It’s called knowing a foreign language before actually posting.

  • @Anonymous:
Well, it’s called ‘English’. I’ve been living in England all my life. So firstly, it’s not foreign to me. Seems you took my ‘over the pond’ to automatically mean a place where English isn’t spoken. Much to your surprise, there do exist places other than the US and Canada which speak the language.
Secondly, I’ve not had any problems with it up until now.
What I’d actually need to know is the ‘dialect’.

    Whoops, I feel a rant starting – must… hold back….

  • A friend of mine had the option to major in Ancient Sumerian
