create.swf interface update!

This is it! The big create.swf interface update! Tons of new things have been added. Here are some screenshots!

Introducing… the new menu interface! Let’s start with the really new stuff. In the “etc” section of the menu, you will find some crazy new things! Such things include: the option to change the size of your character (from 10% up to 200%), the ability to lock certain settings (so that you can’t change them unless you unlock; useful for randomizing), and the ability to choose a premade character (I’ll explain this part later on)!

This is the part of the menu where you choose the background/setting! Rather than using the old “clicking left/right until you find the background you want” technique in the old versions, you can now see twelve of them at a time!

Here’s the “preset” characters list I mentioned before. Basically, look for a character on the list, and type the number in. Your create.swf character will automatically reset to that character!

Choosing a hairstyle has become much easier thanks to the new interface!

Same with hats! Also, this isn’t really an option, but now you can drag your character around the screen by clicking and dragging your mouse! Pretty awesome, if you ask me. Anyway, go check it out. If you notice any errors, don’t hesitate to post about it. I know some of the errors (some of the backgrounds overlap others, the snowy background has no falling snow, etc), and those are intentional. Well, not really intentional, but it’ll take awhile to fix and I don’t really feel like it’s necessary.

  • First!

    Good work Ki.

  • Second!
    Awesome!
    Good work ^^

  • Absolutely superb re-design! At least, that’s by the look of the screenshots and your description – I’m sure it’ll be as good as it looks/sounds. =D (You got it out pretty quickly too.)

I bet we’re soon going to wonder how we ever used it when we had to keep clicking left/right to find what we wanted. I love the idea of moving and scaling the character! I expect that’ll let you make the characters fit in with the background much better than in previous versions.

I look forward to trying it out, and congrats!

  • Wow amazing, good job.

  • :O
Nice job. Time to play again~

  • lol! yuka is looking at you!

  • congratulations, that was a good work.specially the list with characters, because if you want one is more easy found it now.the hairstyle list remind me “yukuri” suddenly, lol.
i have a question:is possible put more than one character in the same place?
    soon,Merry and Renko.yea.

  • All I can complain about is that Cirno isn’t preset character number 9.

    Besides that, excellent work.

  • Amazing.
    WHY ISNT CIRNO 9

  • WOW. I never really used this program that much because of all the clicking before, but now that it’s super user friendly, it’s much, MUCH better.

My only suggestion is add an option to turn off the sidebar and buttons so that once the character is finished, the whole scene can be view in undisturbed glory.

Plus the 200% characters need all the extra room they can get.

  • Thank you very much. I’m grateful that you regularly add features to your site and to create.swf.

  • Awesome update, KirbyM.

  • wewt

I’m going to play around with it now :D

  • @SonicZeroX: Oh yeah, I had planned on adding something like that when I started working on the update. I guess I forgot to add it.

Anyhow, I’ve updated it again slightly, with a “hide” function at the top right. There’s also individual randomization now (you can randomize just the hat, just the hair, just the body, etc instead of having to randomize everything that’s unlocked). Cirno is also preset character #9 now.

  • WHOA! cool! less clicking to get the gundam box!

  • Much improved!

  • Wow, nice job!

Maybe you could also add a feature that outputs a special comma-delimited list of all of the items that the character is set to? So then they can be shared. Like, you click on a button, and a box comes up with a button to close it, another for copying it to the clipboard, and yet another one to set everything to the code that is in the box.

So like, it would output something like [1, 2, 3, 4…] etc.

And also yay~ on the hide feature. :3

  • @Balmung: I’ve actually been considering that for quite some time now. I just have no idea how I’d approach doing something like that. I could probably find out how if I tried. Now that I think about it, it shouldn’t be that hard to do, right? I’ll see if I can do anything with it the next time I update.

  • Yay! Awesome! ^^

KirbyM is made of yay and mew.

  • Awesome changes. I think I’m gonna have some fun with 200% Touhou girls. -cough-

  • For settings with characters already in them, why not make it so that they follow along as you drag your character around?

  • Wow! Awesome update!

  • Nameless Shikigami

If you want a few suggestions or requests for what to put into this thing from here on out, I got a few.

    * Changing of skin tone. Yeah I know, not too many tanned people in Touhou, but it would help with the creativity part.

    * Ability to have multiple created characters. Yes, this would be very hard, but it would sooo be worth it if you can find time. Maybe this summer?

    * ExRumia, while not an official character, could still be added in with the appropriate info. Maybe some knock offs too…like this one:

  • Great update, finding needed piece of clothes/body part became much easier now.
The only small problem there was in old create.swf, and which sill remains there is all preset characters are missing their “back” part, and their accesory and item.
Though originally it was made because some characters dont have wings/accesories/items in their hands and some items and accesories dont belong to any specific character; i think now it would be pretty easy to add these to preset characters. Back is most important there, because for many characters their wings or other accesories that belong to “Back” are as important as their hats! Look at kanako, does she really look like herself without that rope thingy?
And while for some characters its easy to find their back accesories (i.e Kanako or Flandre), for others it might be a bit troublesome.
tl;dr add back/items/accesories to preset characters!

  • Speaking of backs, who do those bright orange glowy-ish wings belong to? Anyone?

Also, Remilia looks somewhat odd with Tokiko’s wings … “

  • Okay, whoa. That’s pretty awesome.

  • KimikoMuffin: They’re Mokou’s phoenix wings.

  • Great update. Interface it’s very comfortable now.

    Thumbs up!

  • Next thing to add, is Mannosuke

  • THIS IS AWESOME.

  • Yay!
The only problem is that you can’t change shoes unless you do Quick Change.

  • @Kilgamayan: I don’t know what you’re talking about.

@Nameless Shikigami: The skintone thing would be a bit hard to do, since I’d have to make separate “head” and “arms” symbols for each skin tone. Unless I can find some piece of actionscript that takes a certain color and switches it with another, adding skintones would probably increase the size of the flash a lot. It’d be pretty inconvenient. Multiple characters I could probably do, but yeah, it’d take awhile. I’d have to make separate menus for each character and all that stuff.

@Anonymous: I think I’ll add the appropriate wings/etc to preset characters next time. Not so sure about items and accessories, though. Except for a few items, most of them aren’t really meant for a specific character.

@KingPepe: Oh wow, I’m surprised nobody noticed that yet (myself included). I’ll go fix it the next time I update.

Also, I think next time I’ll add a function that allows you to rotate/flip the character around (Something like… the person types in a number and it’ll rotate the character by that many degrees). Nobody suggested this, but I think it’d be pretty cool to have upside down characters and things like that.

  • That’s a facking huge update, thanks for all the work you’re putting in this

  • Whoa, incredible. A few minor interface improvements for the Menu that should be fairly easy and useful:

Point-and-select (or at least fill into the input box) for the Character Numbers menu.

Wraparound (back at first page -> last page) for item part menus, and mirroring the “Lock this aspect” option from the expanded menu.

Maybe make Lock override Character Select (in case you want to easily make something like “Yuyuko with Momiji’s head” or some other simple combination)? This might be the most annoying part to add.

Some marking of what size % you’re currently using might be convenient.

  • wow this is superb cool.

  • Aww, the snowy background was my favorite :(

Other than that, everything else works fine. The preset character thing is the most useful for me; it took a while before to make any specific character, but it’s easy now.
