Animated Documentary (Part 4)

Scene 4

(There are eight scenes to this documentary and this is the fourth one; the actual embedded flash is in the full post to avoid making people load a ~3MB file on the main page; the other scenes will be posted later)

Scene 4 is all narration and mainly just a bunch of panning/zooming images. Narration was done by Scott Last-Name-Omitted-For-Privacy-Reasons-And-The-Fact-That-I-Don’t-Actually-Know-His-Last-Name-Because-I-Know-Him-From-Online, but the last name isn’t shown here. The last name I used in the actual presentation was “Edwards” but I just made it up from an online last-name generator. Anyway yeah, this is mostly just factual stuff for educational purposes and to meet the research component of the project.

The narration scenes (there’s one other one later) are actually the last ones I did, because I just wanted to get all the lip-syncing done, since that was the part that took the most effort. Panning and zooming images, on the other hand, is really easy.

Anyway, this is actually pretty incomplete as far as timelines go, since it doesn’t include that much of the history and important people. Since I did these parts last, I also knew how long it needed to be to fill the length requirement (which I actually thought was 20 minutes but turned out to be 10), so including a more comprehensive history of early animation would have made it way longer than it needed to be. And… yeah. That’s all.

  • Uh, KirbyM says this was done by someone different.

  • Hello, I am Scott Last-Name-Omitted-For-Privacy-Reasons-And-The-Fact-That-I-Don’t-Actually-Know-His-Last-Name-Because-I-Know-Him-From-Online
    NICE TO MEET YOU!

  • GO FEETY YEAH

  • I think that one of the awesome things about today’s chapter was that it simulated one form of animation using flash-animation.

Also, the spinning-cylinder-with-slots thing is a zoetrope. A zeotrope is something different.

  • If you ever feel the urge to work up a “director’s cut” of this or are required to polish it for some form of presentation, I’d recommend you have Scott re-read his lines more slowly and with clearer enunciation. If he runs on too long, you can always accelerate the audio with an editing program (which should be doable without making him sound like a chipmunk) when you composite it with the visuals.

  • NoWaiThatsImpossible:O

it got cut off at the end :< and hooray for Scott Last-Name-Omitted-For-Privacy-Reasons-And-The-Fact-That-KirbyM-Doesn’t-Actually-Know-His-Last-Name-Because-KirbyM-Knows-Him-From-Online

  • @MarisaMuffin: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the pronunciation errors (like zoetrope). I sorta asked for the narration last-minute and didn’t really have that much time to ask him to re-read some parts (well I did, but I didn’t feel like making him redo it), so I just left it in. The audience at school clearly didn’t notice any of it (not that most people knew what a zoetrope was anyway) or didn’t mention it at all, so it was fine for the audience.

@NoWaiThatsImpossible:O: Er, the last word is supposed to be “movement.”

  • Wow, hardly get what Scott-do-not-wanna-copy-paste-that was saying. Was a little too fast for me -.-

And yeah, thanks to him we still do not know the real genre of KirbyM… I bet $0.00 he’s a guy XD (doesn’t has any money to pay any bet)

  • @TyrannoRexaur: KirbyM’s genre is ‘awesome’.

    …Also, almost-identical duplicate posts are embarrasing. T_T

  • He didn’t sound cheery enough. ;_; HE NEEDS TO FIGHT THE BRIGHT WITH CHEER!

Oh, and now I’m addicted to tvtropes. (if you value your time on this earth, do not go there.) Of course, I’m a cat, and curiosity killed me.

@Sprocket: aww, Scott as a chipmunk would be the pwn.

  • I’M BACK AND I HAVE REAL INTERNET.

This is a pretty great series. How many parts will it have in all?

I wish I had known you were working on something like this… if you’d still like any help let me know :)

  • where did you find the last-name generator? can you send a link? i can use if for character naming.

  • @SomethingUnreal: As well as ZUN’s music genre. But KirbyM is genderless or hermaphrodite, I thought that had been stated before. Either that or a cyborg from the future. Or the past, why not?

@Cobalt: I was in tvtropes yesterday, and managed to get out of there in 20 minutes, for which I should receive a medal.

  • .-.
    wha?

  • Wepps, didn’t notice my grammar, it was supossed to be gender not genre, sorry ’bout that ^-^”

  • Well I thought Feety narrated that quite well!

  • @Cirno is a Genius: Eight, I think.

  • It cuts off at the end :<

    Oh well

    Nice narration Mr.Last-Name-Omitted-For-Privacy-Reasons-And-The-Fact-That-I-Don’t-Actually-Know-His-Last-Name-Because-I-Know-Him-From-Online

  • Just call him Scott Surname.

  • IT’S FEETY!
SO THIS IS WHAT YOU GUYS WERE TALKING ABOUT SO LONG AGO!

  • All this talk about techniques & devices, but no talk of who did what first! I recall seeing on a documentary something about 2 guys betting on whether or not there is a point in a horse’s gallop where none of its feet touch the ground, so they line a stretch of ground with cameras set up in such a way that each camera took a picture in sequence as the horse ran past. I forgot who won the bet, but I think the documentary claimed that incident was the first known animation.

  • Wouldn’t it be funny if his last name was actually Edwards?
