July 4th Weekend

(Image directory)

This weekend a friend came to NYC (Friday July 2nd to Monday July 5th), and so we had adventures in the city. Here are some of the photos I took. Locations include: Times Square, Toys R’ Us, arcade, Nintendo World, Kinokuniya bookstore, ramen restaurant, Coney Island (hot dog eating competition, arcade, beach), Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and some random street where we watched fireworks. Versions of the images with slightly more detailed descriptions can be found on Twitpic. Also here’s a video of the Macy’s July 4th danmaku with a random building blocking part of it.

  • I’m still not sure how to react to the existence of that whole “Manga Guide To…” series thing.

  • Let’see, replying in numerical order:

3 – They still haven’t got down that L4D2 promo banner yet!?

4 – The DDR is just a computer made to run the program!? I thought it was MAGIC!! DX

8 – Twilight in JAPANESE!? I feel tempted to show this to my fellow anti-Twilighters… in a forum. Not really fellow but still.

12 – “OMG it’s a plasma screen!” The finger just says it all.

  • Yeah…

Here in Hawaii we had a relatively tame July 4th. Most of ours fireworks are saved up for New Years (Huzzah heavily Asian population).

I also have no idea how I’d feel watching fireworks with buildings and things around me compared to miles and miles of open space and sky. And, going out to watch fireworks? Psh. I just go to my backyard and I can check out the fireworks across the loch. Thumbs up for nearby military bases!

And all I need to give up in exchange is a vibrant community with many hotspots of culture! Huzzah!

I sometimes wish I lived in NYC. Stupid television and their glamorizing of the city.

  • I’d graze that firework

  • WOW!,THAT WAS AMAZING!,I WISH I’D HAD GONE TO JAPAN, *but i mostly go to chinatown a lot these lately*,and we had firworks in our town to!,it was great, but we watched it by the river, and some time we went to dinner,i’ve also been to new york and chinatown a hundred times, and i’ve also seen alot of things, and had adventures in it,seriously,i did,IT WAS AMAZING AND COOL!

  • Sounds like you had a great time. Good for you!

For different reasons, I’m a little nonplussed by the custom DS’s, Twilight manga and Miku wallet. Jesus watching over skee ball amuses me more than it probably should.

Hurray for fireworks! And…darkened city street filled with people!

  • Oh man, hanging out with you guys was just tons of fun.
I was glad to be able to learn about new places in the city with you, and to teach you guys about places you’d never been to as well :3

Also I kinda wish I had just hopped on the train on that Sunday and headed down to see the fireworks. I was so bored. :(

  • DEE ESSES! TWEWY THEMED!

And I thought that thing at #16 said 「大乳神」 orz. I STILL DON’T KNOW WHAT IT SAYS.

HOW TO DATE A VAMPIRE! I HAVE ALWAYS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THAT! /sarcasm

There are too many jokes to come up with that Jesus. I won’t even bother.

I have never seen someone type “Nice to tweet you!”… *checks Twitter*… until now.

Databases work with fairies. True fact. Srsly.

This is the spirit of the American Danmaku Day!

  • Hmm, I heard something on the news about a hot dog champion (maybe former) named Kobayakawa or something.

  • Spam danmaku!

  • @Fubu:
I found a Flickr page discussion between some Japanese people trying to figure out what it read from a photo. Best concensus was it says 大明神, or Daimyoujin.

  • Ahem…”consensus”.

  • @2nd video: irl danmaku

  • The first time I read this I subconsciously blotted out the hot part of hot dog eating contest. So I had to do a double take to make sure I didn’t just read, “Coney Island (dog eating contest)”
