iPods

I don’t have an iPod and I don’t quite care about them. I just don’t like how people use the terms “iPod” and “MP3 player” interchangeably. It gets annoying sometimes, although I guess people only do it because most audio players people use around here are iPods. Anyhow, the English Language and Composition AP exam is tomorrow!

  • The phenomenon of using a brand name to refer to all similar products is hardly new.

    See: Kleenex, Q-Tip, Xerox
Also (if you live in the Milwaukee or, so I am told, the Boston area): Bubbler and (if you live in the south) Coke

  • I don’t know any silly naming tropes in my area ;_;

  • I get that a lot from technology un-savy people. Good luck on your exams!

  • I use a zune
    *gets Master Sparked*

  • People don’t do that in my school, they say “Nice mp3” or something
    ITS A Mp3 PLAYER
    PLAYER
mp3 IS THE FRIGGIN FILE TYPE
    It drives me crazy
And they do that with usb flash drives, they call them usb’s

  • Hey man, can I see your iPod?

  • Hey man, can I see your iPod?

  • Good day, sir, could I perhaps have a closer look at your music-creation device?

  • HOORAY
    Ok, that was kinda predictable.

    YAY PHONOGRAPH

  • I feel like Unnamed Character was giving me that look in the last panel for laughing at the second-to-last panel.

  • Goddamnit, I should have seen the level 9 joke coming.

  • I use the PSP as an MP3 player…

  • Good luck on the exam tomorrow!

Also, saw what you did there.

  • @E-mouse: I think everyone should have. Not like it would have made it any less funny though.

  • There’s two “s”es in “cassette”.

Also, older records like the ones used in gramophones were actually made out of bakelite.

    *THE MORE YOU KNOW*

Otherwise, great flash. I totally agree. I work with computers, and trying to provide tech support for someone who calls their computer the “CPU” and thinks that their ISP is Internet Explorer makes me NERD RAGE so hard. Of course, these are just examples, and tame ones at that. I’ve encountered much worse.

It’s amazing that in this day and age, where we’re surrounded by technology, people can be that technologically incompetent.

  • @Phil: I often say Selotape instead of sticky-tape, since that’s the brand of tape I’ve always used, and it’s just become a habit. =/

“THIS ISN’T AN IPOD, IT’S A MORSE CODE TRANSMITER” =P

  • It’s the same with people who call a carbonated drink soda in some areas, and pop in others.

Also, Cirno FTW! I should’ve seen that coming though.

  • I know where you’re coming from. Most of my friends are very un-tech-savvy and start mucking up conversations with that kinda stuff.

    lol @ piano iPod

  • Hey, I’m talking the AP English exam tomorrow too!

I took the AP chem exam today and on my way out noticed that there were six people registered to take the AP Psychology exam that afternoon. That’s something that would probably warrant a blog or flash if I wrote regularly.

  • Frozen frogs are definitely the best audio playing devices hands down.

Best of luck in your endeavors on the AP exam. I took mine just recently and I’m in a storm of nervous emotions.

  • “Hey man, can I see your iPod?”

    “Hooray!”

  • Hey can I see your ○9-pod?

  • You aren’t alone JUM! I own an zune also!

  • Someone did the research. Nice job on the morse.

  • It’s like my friends say.
“Quit being so analytical and just accept the fact that we’re too lazy to say emm- pee- three player…”

Good luck on your APEs tomorrow.

  • My sell phone doubles an an MP3 player, does that count?

  • ***cell phone @_@

  • “Windex” instead of “Ammonia-based Cleaning Solution”

Oh, and my model of MP3 player is a Creative Zen V.

  • or when people call them mp3 players when thay play ogg and stuff as well…

  • Quick, we need to create a brand for a product. After all, who wouldn’t want a “Master Spark” illuminating their house?

  • When the day comes we invent a matter-energy tranfer device, will we call it a transporter or a teleporter?

  • I LIEK TRUCKZ

  • Too bad since the sansa is better anyways.

  • oh, btw: Is that line near the arrow on the level 9 panel just a line or is it text?

  • Hooray! I agree with this daily flash! I get the urge to punch people who ask me about my “ipod”. Uggh. I can’t stand Apple. Aparantly my mp3 player is popular in Singapore though. >_>
    O_o’

    Uh, good luck!

  • @ Project Mars
It is indeed text. Zoom in to see.

  • Hey man, can I see your loliPod?

  • Yeah, got the new iFrozenFrog. Blows the iPod away.

  • iFrozenFrog.. lol nice.
wait, is that even a device?

  • @Anon: Hmm, didn’t know i could do that.
the text speaks the truth though.

  • I laughed a bit, nice job.

  • Just what portable music playing device does Headphones Character listen to? :o?

  • I love Annoying Character.

  • @Pingy: Good question! I wonder if KirbyM’s already thought of that and will reveal the answer in some other flash…

@Moku: Portable OGG player? MUST GET. O_O STATE PLACE OF PURCHASE. NOW. O_O PLEASE.

  • Portable OGG player? That is Madness! OGGs are extremely small so A protable OGG player could -Utterly Destroy i-Pod

  • You would’ve thought so, Immac, but many people are too stubborn or scared of new technology to start using OGGs.
Even though there’s something to do with patents or copyright of MP3 technology, but OGG Vorbis doesn’t seem to have such strict licenses.

About the only place they seem to be being used at large is in Japanese VN or ADV-style games, where there are tons of voice files, since OGGs are especially better at compressing voice (without losing much quality) than MP3s are.

  • My mp3 player can play OGG files perfectly fine (and I’m sure it can play other file formats I’ve never even heard of). It’s a 30GB COWON iAudio X5 with extended battery life. It lasts like 30 hours before running out of power, and I basically recharge it once a month.

  • Thanks for that info KirbyM! ^^
I will be sure to check it out, it sounds great!

  • HOORAYYY!~

  • I has an OMA / Atrac player. You know how Sony used to force people to use their crappy Sonicstage software to transfer / reencode music?

But I got it for free so I mustn’t complain.

  • “It’s a 30GB COWON iAudio X5 with extended battery life.”

  • Gosh Darnit, my comments keep getting cut in half.
I was going to say if the above quoted audio player that KirbyM owns, is in fact what Head Phones Character uses, or maybe Nameless Character?

  • @Pingy: Yeah, it is. Although it doesn’t really matter because we never really see it anyway. Except in this really really old flash:

    http://walfas.org/flash/hooray3.swf

  • i have an ipod………..but i don’t know how to load songs[and songs on esnips][and in my downloads file]on to it. any advise?!?!???????
