Ah, mathletics. A clever portmanteau of the words “math” and “athletics” despite the fact that it’s not really very related to athletics. My school doesn’t have “mathletics” competitions (but it does have clubs based on math competitions like AMC), and I don’t actually know if any school actually uses the word “mathletics.” I just saw a sign at school with the word “athletics,” which came right after some other word ending with an M, and it sorta looked like the word “mathletics.” And that is the only reason why I made this daily flash. Well, besides the fact that having an actual math+athletics thing would be kinda cool to see.
I’ve actually taken the AMC tests before in middle school. You move up to the next test if you score enough points. I was always one or two points away…
I’ve actually gone to math competitions, but they were known as Math Olympics. My public school came 5th in a provincial one, and my high school came second twice in a regional one.
Math is awesome, btw. Biased though, as I have a math degree.

I’d dearly love to see someone try to karate chop a quintic into its factors. Man, that’d be so convenient.
Once, my math teacher entered the whole class in AMC. The competition gives marks for not answering questions but no marks for answering them wrong, so I calculated the number of questions I needed to answer correctly to get just enough to pass. It worked.
I remember those things. We were told that the event was completely voluntary, but you would lose points for not getting a single question right. Also, not showing up means no correct answers.
That was amazing, one of the best flashes you’ve done so far. We had a competitive math team at the high school I went to as well, but it wasn’t anywhere near that awesome!

Got to be careful with polynomials of degrees higher than two you have to chop them quickly in succesion.

I was in mathletics when I was in high school for about a month. It was so lame that now I try to skirt math classes as much as I can.
Although, sadly Nameless Character thought it was a Pi lifting contest when it was a Pi eating contest.
